Desert Camp Near Jaisalmer Fort and Railway Station
If you have just stepped off the train at Jaisalmer railway station, or you are standing outside the fort with an evening to spare, the first thing you need is a straight answer: how far are the dunes, and how do you get there.
Our camp sits at Sam Sand Dunes, roughly 42 km west of Jaisalmer city, with our booking office at Dhibba Para, near Fort Parking. So there are two locations to know about — the office you can walk to from the fort, and the camp you drive out to for the night.

A note on the road. The Jaisalmer–Sam stretch is in good condition but has no street lighting for the final 20 km. If you are driving yourself and arriving after dark, allow extra time and call ahead so someone can guide you in at the camp turn-off.

Stay Near the Fort, or Out on the Dunes?
People searching for a camp near Jaisalmer Fort usually want one of two different things. Worth knowing which one you are after before you book.
A hotel near the fort
Right for you if your priority is heritage, markets, rooftop dinners and short walks. You can still do the desert as a half-day trip.

When to leave the city
Departure Timings by Season
The one thing people get wrong is leaving too late and arriving after the sunset has gone. Work backwards from these times.
Sunset 5:45 – 6:15 pm
Leave the fort or station by 3:00 pm if you want a route stop, or 4:00 pm for a direct transfer.
Nights are cold out here. Carry a jacket even if the afternoon felt warm in the city.
Sunset 6:15 – 6:45 pm
Leave by 3:30 pm with stops, or 4:30 pm direct. Comfortable driving conditions throughout.
Festival weeks in February are busy on this road — add 15 minutes.
Sunset 7:00 – 7:30 pm
Leave by 4:30 pm. Earlier than that and you are sitting in the heat waiting for the light to soften.
Camel safaris in this period start later, usually after 5:30 pm.

Getting From Jaisalmer to the Desert Camp
1. How far is the desert camp from Jaisalmer Fort?
About 42 km by road, which takes roughly 55 minutes in normal traffic. Our booking office is much closer — around 300 m from Fort Parking, at Dhibba Para, opposite Hotel Royal.
2. Is there a desert camp actually near Jaisalmer Fort?
No genuine sand-dune camp sits within walking distance of the fort. The dunes themselves begin roughly 40 km west of the city. Anything advertised as a camp inside the city is a hotel or resort with a tent-style room, not a desert camp.
3. Can you pick me up from Jaisalmer railway station?
Yes. The station is about 45 km from the camp, roughly one hour. Share your train number and arrival time when booking so the vehicle is there when you step off.
4. What if my train arrives in the morning and check-in is later?
You can leave your luggage at our city office near Fort Parking, spend the day on fort and haveli sightseeing, and transfer out to the camp in the afternoon.
5. How far is the camp from Jaisalmer Airport?
About 48 km, or a little over an hour. Jaisalmer Airport runs a limited seasonal schedule, so confirm your flight before planning a same-day transfer.
6. Can I visit the dunes and return to my city hotel the same night?
Yes. A half-day trip with camel safari, sunset, cultural programme and dinner usually gets you back into Jaisalmer city by around 9 pm.
7. What time should I leave the city to catch sunset?
In winter, leave by 4 pm for a direct transfer or 3 pm if you want to stop at Kuldhara or Bada Bagh. In summer, 4:30 pm is enough.
8. Can I drive to Sam Sand Dunes myself?
Yes, the road is tarred the whole way. There is no street lighting for the final stretch, so call before you set off if you will arrive after dark and we will guide you to the turn-off.
9. Is transport included in the camp package?
It depends on the package. Confirm it when you request a quotation, and tell us your pickup point, so the vehicle and timing can be planned correctly.
10. Are there attractions on the way to the camp?
Bada Bagh, Amar Sagar, Lodurva, Kuldhara and Khaba Fort all sit along the road west from Jaisalmer. Two of them fit comfortably into an afternoon transfer.
